John's Story

Life I discovered some startling news this past Christmas 2007. Some, if not all of you who knew me in elementary and high school, may have suspected or even knew about what I am going to tell you. I have confirmed that I was adopted and of another race besides white. My 'brother' and an 'aunt' has independently confirmed to me that I was adopted as a child and that I am, at least in part, another race and not white. All my life I thought I was white even though I knew there was something different about me. I was informed that my birth mother was of middle-eastern descent but that is not confirmed yet, other than when you look at me and perceive another race. As tramatic as this news is to me, it is also a relief. I had wondered all my life why most 'whites' rejected me as a child in both my church and public school. I really thought it was because I was poor, but I really do not believe that now. I was also rejected by most blacks even though that resulted in more hostility. Bottomline is that I was not white enough to be accepted by most whites nor was I black enough to be accepted by most blacks. As a result, I have concluded that both races can be equally racist and bigoted. Thus, I have little sympathy for either one's cause. As a Christian, this does not deter me in my relationship with Jesus Christ, nor does it effect what I see in people who have good character regardless of their race. Additionally, my respect and love for my adopted parents is at it's highest peak, more so than it has ever been. For them to love and treat me exactly like their own is paramount to me. Even in their death, they did not want me to know that I was adopted, but to always believe that I was really theirs. Beli...Expand for more
eve me when I say, that this was accomplished more than they know. Many of you probably suspected that I was a different race. Only you and God know if that affected the way you treated me, so it is of little consequence to me now. People treat each other bad because of sin, not because of race....race is just another outlet for their internal sin problem. I want all of you to know that I do not think any less of you. I base my judgement on one's character, nothing more, nothing less. I appreciate those few who befriended me as a child and stood by me. For those who rejected or mistreated me, I have no malice against you. I have sinned and offended a Holy God and He has forgiven me thru Christ, so who am I to do the contrary. However, for those who continue to cling to racial bigotry, I must warn you that there will be a price to pay for that, either in this world or in the one to come for you. No where in the Bible does it condone racial separation for the true Christian and I don't care what church you go to every Sunday, if you are not reaching out to 'all' people with the salvation and love of God, then your religion is a false one......period. For those who are stll holding on to racial history for an excuse to mistreat other races, my message to you is this: Get over yourself! Whites are not superior to other races and blacks must move on and let dead dogs lie. If I were to hold on to every mistreatment that I received from you both as a child, then I would end up joining Osama Bin Laden and blow all of you up, and say, to hell with you. But that is not Christ's way or mine. I wish only the best for all of you and look forward to seeing you some day soon.........take care, John Davis
