John's Story
After I graduated in 1965, my dad retired from the Army and I moved with my family to Georgia where I went to college--Reinhardt College, University of Georgia--and a number of other schools along the way. I completed a Ph.D. in history (Thanks, Mr. Chapman!), and taught history at East Georgia State College from 1973 to 2004. Over the years I have done most of the jobs in academia: teaching, conducting community outreach, chairing two academic divisions, serving as vice president of academic affairs, doing study abroad work,...Expand for more
publishing, giving professional papers, and so forth. I am retired from full-time teaching but continue to work part-time at East Georgia as a teacher and administrator.
My memories of Fort Knox High School are wonderful. Not only were the times good, but I got a first class education as my experience in college proved to me. FKHS teachers that I remember fondly, although both of them were wont to give me hard time (which I deserved), were Miss Schlinker and Miss Van Dyke.
I am married, have two children and one grandson.
