John's Story
Life
Still live in WC. Own family home. Attended CAL, got an MBA at Santa Clara, the usual stuff.
I remember... eating lunch with the same three friends during the last two years at DV near room L7 (yeah)... and getting refreshments from the Day-Glo Crazies in the grove. The day that Dan Fretty knocked out Paul Higgins; the new kid layin' it down. The time we all cut and marched down to the district office, whatever for? How a yearbook pic of Mr. Thom confronting a grover looked so much like Nixon and the radical left. Mr. Geertson (Lorie's father) telling us stories about the Builderburgers and world domination conspiracy theories, something about a military-industrial complex?? what?? who knew?
I also remember doing doughnuts at midnight in the middle of Burton Valley, or maybe just "lawn running". Bill Johns...Expand for more
on and I would "drag the main" in his mom's Mustang (with the strobe stripes), then flip off some low-riders to make them chase us. We'd zip out to Walnut Knowles with them in hot pursuit. These guys were usually from out of town and didn't know how treacherous the road was. That, combined with the fact that Bill's Mustang had a jacked up suspension and could easily maneuver the sharp corners and rolling dips at 50mph, made for a good time (by high school standards). Even if they weren't discouraged by the fact that their lowered cars would bottom out and spray sparks after the first or
second dip, they always lost it at the sharp 90 deg corner that followed. Lots of headlights and dust while we escaped. Trucks and vans were also favored prey to our scheme. Looking back I have to say, we're lucky to be alive.
