John's Story

Life After graduation I tried nursing school for a while and quit. I worked for a local ambulance company for a while and then joined the navy in April of 88. They sent me to Florida til November of 88 and then off to Iceland until June of 90. Upon returning to the US I was stationed in Norfolk, VA and then New York City until I got out in May of 03. I had several different jobs between then and January of 02 when the State Police hired me as a communications operator. For some unknown reason they promoted me to supervisor in September of 04. I left the state in November of 05. Somewhere in between all of that I got married to Jennifer (RHS 86)in September of 94, had a son born in June of 97, bought a house and then bought a nicer one in June of 03. I still live in the area and don't plan on moving again (too much work) any time in the near future. I am also continuing volunteer service with the fire company at Mt. Penn and am in my 24th year there. I have served as chief enginneer, lieutenant and 3rd assistant chief with the likes of Tim Waldman (CCHS 84), Mike Wertz (CCHS 86) and Jeff Wertz (CCHS 88). Steve Waldman (CCHS 88) and my fishing buddy Tim Perella (CCHS 87) have moved away but I still keep in touch via phone and e-mail. Otherwise I seem to be doing well and maybe the class of 87 will have that 20th year reunion. In late 2005 I turned in my resignation with the State Police in order to accept a similar job with Wyomissing Borough. ...Expand for more
Overall it was pretty much the same but I really couldn't pass up on a round trip commute of 8 miles per day compared to the 70 miles per day I was doing in Norristown. Anybody that wants to contact me can do so at 610-413-2551. School What a question! There were lots of girls I really liked but I wouldn't say I had a crush on them. Believe it or not Sister Marie inspired me the most because she gave me the ok for algebra 2 and trig despite the fact that I was lousy at math in general. She spent lots of extra time trying to help me out and I did pass the class (somehow) but more importantly she showed me that you should always be yourself and do the best you can (even if it is a lousy job). If you remember her you probably thought she was a bit off center as I did but she sure had a way of getting her point across. Thanks Sister Marie. (By the way, I still have not found any practical use for Algebra and Trig yet) If somebody has, please let me know. College Are you serious? Workplace Lots of it with good and bad memories. I love my current job with the police and really could not think of doing anything else at this time. I am always looking in case something better comes along. You have to keep your options open. Military Navy 1988 to 1993. Florida, Iceland, Virginia and New York City in that order. PA Army National Guard 1993 to 1996 at 337 HQ company on River rd in Muhlenberg Twp. Never thought I would get my hands on a machine gun!!
