John's Story
Life
Somewhere in the 15th year of life, I must have determined to become the biggest jerk possible; I was wildly successful. In just a short time, I was free of all my good friends, and any sound judgment. The introduction of certain chemicals (whether natural or synthetic) might have had alot to do with my behavior, but nobody ever forced me to take those things. I really want to apologize for the way I was, & the things I did. In May '71, when I felt I lost the last shred of hope or reason to live, on that very day, a young man from Dublin, Ireland told me about Jesus, and how he looked through all the mess that I was, and how He would take and change my life, forgive all I had done, and wash it all away; if I would just surrender to Him, ask, and accept. whoa. That was a several miles and a few gray hairs ago. Since then, I went to a very informal Bible school, did some missionary work in Haiti, and learned a million times over that God is good, faithful, kind and patient. The more I read and study His word, the more I am amazed by Him. I still teach a home group Bible study; it's almost all FSU students. Last June,(2007) we had our 33rd anniversary. Roxane is awesome. I've got 2 wonderful sons, both married to sweet girls; and the prettiest granddaughter that ever was.(I know that good looks, talent ,brains, brawn,or wealth don't make a person worth any more, but it don't hurt)I would love to hear from some of you. I have been a UPS driver for the last 23 years; gettin' kinda old for that stuff. Think I might try something in a short while. I rode sportbikes for years; I really loved that, but I let it go. A jetski can be a little fun. June 2009, I retired. Working on cars, riding mountain bikes, playing soccer; my wife said I was born for this. Sept. 2011 ...Expand for more
I've got 2 granddaughters now, 2 & 4 yrs. old. They're awesome. If you don't get a response for your signature in my guestbook, it's because I can't read your name. I'm not a gold member.......Feb. 2022. About 9 years ago, I was diagnosed with a type of Leukemia. I never lost a moment of sleep. I'm here until I'm called home, and what's waiting for me, and all of the "whosoever wills" is beyond description. Anyway, later that year,(2013), we moved to the mountains of western N.C. We're just downhill from the Appalachian Trail, and the Pisgah Nat. forest. I love it here. The best thing about it is that my youngest son and his family built their home about 60 yards from us. 3 grandkids. This is so good. My oldest son and his wife moved from Texas to Eastern Tenn. just a short trip away.....anywho my health was deteriorating, so they put me through 6 months of Chemo. Awful stuff. And 2 months after it was over, any "gains" they got started to reverse. It's funny that just before and during this time, I was clearing homesites and a garden spot, reclaiming old logging roads, getting firewood,( so much fallen and dead Black Locust trees) capturing and bringing our spring water, so forth and so on. We are about 3600 ft. elevation and up to over 4000..... After a short while the doctors put me on a type of pill. I could not take the whole dosage, so they tried 1/4 of the amount. Bingo, I'm getting along pretty good. Iv'e got to. Goats, garden, grandkids, horses, dog, ducks, chickens, still with the firewood, & blah, blah, blah. I have some days not so good, but I'm so thankful to be doing what I can. God is so good to me. If He can reach through the thick darkness I had surrounded myself with, and make me one of His own,He can and will do the same with anyone who will come to Him, Jesus does indeed love even me.
