John's Story
Greetings All!
Well, It is now the end of 2020 and an update is in order. After 40 years of government work, my wife and I retired in 2016 and moved from Corpus Christi, TX to Tyler, TX. We've traded city life for the semi-country life. I am now managing a number of acres of timber and enjoying the relative quiet.
I am still very much a Scout Leader (Scoutmaster) for our Boy Scout Troop with my older two grandsons. I've added being a board member for our local water supply system and at our church. Much of my travel now is between Tyler and Richardson, TX to see our other three grandkids (now 10, 8 and 5). That and monthly camping trip with the Troop is about all the travel I desire after years of national and international travel. It's good to be close to home.
I thought retirement was a time to slow down but if anything, I am busier that when I actually worked. But, I must say that I am satisfied with much of what I am doing these days as I get to keep active and motivated. I can't see myself slowing down for many years if at all.
I'm leaving much of my previous writeup as filler for what I did ...Expand for more
for the years from school to retirement. Interesting how much we tend to remember when we put our minds to it.
My Regards to You All,

Pre-2016:
Greetings from Corpus Christi, TX. Job is flying P-3s with US Customs and Border Protection under DHS. Been doing it for 25 years. We hunt down drug smuggler boats and airplanes. Traveling is fun and interesting.
Went to Texas Tech Univ after HS graduation. Graduated there, was an Air Force officer for 12 years, got out and came to Corpus Christi in 1987. Finished a Masters of Pub Admin at OU in 1992.
Married (35 years)with two grown children and three cool grandsons and a very cute granddaughter. (No bias on my part!) ;)
I'm a longtime Boy Scout leader and youth sponsor at our church. Working with youth keeps me thinking young. I guess I'm not really ready to grow up yet! We going to retire in 2016 and go into timber in East Texas.
Life is good, the job is fun with lots of travel, the family is loving, the kids are fun to work with, and the climate is warm. God has been good to us.
The Best to You, John D. Fowler (jfowler123) 01/15/2013
