John's Story
Life
John Gilbert was born and raised in Columbus, Georgia. He graduated from Hardaway High School in 1972 and received Television training at Auburn University. John worked as a Television news reporter at WRBL-TV in Columbus until 1980. In 1977 he married Angie Springer of East Point, Georgia and they had 3 daughters.
Upon hearing that the historic Bradley Theater in Columbus was to be torn down in 1981, John launched the "Save the Bradley" project which saved the theater from the wrecking ball. The Bradley Theater is still in use today.
John and Angie moved to the Atlanta area in 1983 and to Stockbridge in Henry County in 1985. Unfortunately, Angie died of cancer April 15, 1999.
John helped to organize the Henry Arts Alliance in 1991 and founded the Henry Players in the same year. In 1994 he organized...Expand for more
the Henry Film Society and has had one film entered into the Atlanta Film Festival.
John has appeared in films, on television, and has acted on stage. The most recent film he has appeared in is "The Patriot" staring Mel Gibson and "Sweet Home Alabama".
John loves the American Revolution and has for a number of years been working on a book about the subject. He is currently working on the Georgia Independence Day Festival. It's in it's 10th year and had over 16,000 people there last year. (You can google Georgia Independence Day Festival)
John also writes for columbusgeorgiaonline.com and has written several stories about growing up in a drive-in theater in Columbus, GA.
He currently the Production Manager for SBN-TV in McDonough, GA. and is also helping to restore the Rialto Theater in Columbus, GA.
