John's Story

Life Life changes very fast some times. I have worked for Sprint/Nextel ,as a lead technician for the past 8 years and I really have enjoyed it. As the news bears clear its realy a fast ride at the moment. Still single and I still don't like it. Where is my dream girl? I love to drive my Little MX5, and hit the road as often as possible. I have enjoyed the week long Caribeian cruises, and sometimes hate comming back to work. As of October 2007 I sold the Race car, bougt a new Jeep and am getting hooked on the extreem off road stuff. This sport is pure nuts. I am not looking to destroy my new off road prize, but for the first time I am looking for an older one to build for the extreem sport. There are so maney guys my age doing it, its unreal. Look for an update as I get into this over my eye balls. I still wish I had a fine fox to ride along for the fun, but chance will be the ruler of that. I am looking at retirment, September 2009, (MAYBE), and it is a little of a worry. I want to, but then again I don't. I know I am not the only one going through this and every one probably to some degree goes through it. Its an age thing, a what comes next thing, and a bunch more. I just know I am not ready because there seems to be so much stuff that needs to be done to get it over, and I am a little lost with out a helper. Well I could go on and on with this, but wanted to share it, as I know some of my old friends are at this point also. Well times are tough for every one it looks like. Sprint has now out sourced even their most critical people it seams, I now work for C.B. Richard Elis inc. Nothing about my job changed, pay, benifits, etc. So why did they do this? To save Money they say. Well that remains to be seen, but going into this with a good attitude, and hoping oppertunities are as good as we are being told. As of Feb. 1, 2009 it will be a new adventure for most of us, but some will be looking for a new job, and that stinks. I guess I am just lucky my job is criticle and I am just a little unique in what I do. I need to just hang on untill next September so I can make a decision on retirment without the big worry of how will i get by. Well here it comes, I have a title now with the new company, Senior Engineer, I am not sure it realy means anything, but it makes me feel good that they give me a lot of respect. I am taking a couple of weeks off this month to go to the Bahamas again. I just need to go where it's warm and have some fun. There are 178 of my friends and a few folks I don't know going. It seems like every one is trying to get me hooked up with one of their friends, and who knows maybe it will happen. I just want to have fun, and what ever comes on top of that is just Icing on the cake. Well when I get back about the first of Feb. I will add a little more to this. Oh! One more note, my youngest son Phillip has found his true love, and I expect he will make the plunge befor the year i...Expand for more
s out. I am so very happy for him, and think he has made a great choice. He has also self published his first book, Creations of The Mind. It's very scary, and action packed. I think it could be a movie some day. If we could get it published on a large scale it would sure help. It's very hard starting out and cost a ton of bucks to get to the big time. He already is working on #2 and #3 so who knows, but he has the imagination and talent to get there. I just got back from another trip to the Bahamas, and am ready to go back again. There are a few of the islands that I could make home, I wish I were about 20 years younger and I would be on my way. Its February and winter is on its way out I hope. It looks like a great year, but very different is comming. Things are changing, I am getting older quick, but life still looks good. Shure hope all my friends are doing well. This vacation has made me think a little more about retirement, I just do not want to work any more, oh maybe a little now and then. I just want to travel I think. The Jeep does not even seem to get me stired up like it first did, but I still enjoy it. Well it's about time I did an up date. 2010 has been life changing for me. I got Lymphoma Cancer in November of 2009 and have not been able to work since. I beat the cancer, but it has left me with a breating problem as the Cancer killed some nerves to my Diaphragm and only one Lung works now. In November of 2010 I had to have surgery for a blocked artery to my Brain. I did very well with that surgery and have recovered totaly. All my worry about retiring was a waist of time etc., since I am not able to return to the work I used to do. I sold the Jeep and got a Chevy Silverado 4 wheel off road Z-71 truck. Not much chance to Do anything but travel in a little bit of style now, so as long as I can It's the open road for me. 2011 better be a good one, I'm still alive and kicking, but have lost a few old friends this past year, and I don't think my number is up yet, so travel is for me. OK! Who is out to get me? I had a Heart Attack August 3rd. I'm still alive and have 5 Stints in my heart now. I thought the Cancer slowed me down, well the Heart attack has about stopped me cold. Doctor says I am very lucky. I think I am a little on the unlucky side. My heart is not damaged and is very strong so full recoveery should come quick. Living alone and not having any one to keep an eye on me is a bit worrysome. It's just me and my Kitty now, and I worry about what would happen to my kitty if something happens to me, she is such a great kitty, I love here like she is one of my kids. She is not an out doors kitty and has no front claws, so she is totaly dependent on me. Oh well, thats all for my update, My 69th Birthday is just a few days away, and I am just glad to still be alive. Well it's May 2016, and I am still alive. It's been tough getting here, and I am surprised I have come this far.
