John's Story

Went to College at Clarion State (became Clarion University while there)...barely graduated, to much party time. B. S. Biology w/ graduate work in ecology which got me into Montefiore Hospital (immunoassays lab) directly out. Six months later jumped into the Environmental Field w/ NUS Corporation (the country's Superfund program stated to address National Priority List of hazardous waste sites). Remedial Investigations; then RI/Feasibility Studies; then Remedial Design followed by Remediation (1981 to 1991) as a field and project chemist (One Organic lab with access to and use of a Gas Chromatograph at Clarion got me into the field, I swear...amazing). Jumped into Health&Safety/Industrial Hygiene with a company in Robinson Township in 1991 and worked everywhere imaginable cleaning up private industry environmental mistakes and intentional but criminal dealings (some not fun at all) until late 90s early 2000s when I started contract work for DOW Chemical, Conoco then ConocoPhillips, Eli Lilly, and doze...Expand for more
ns of medium to small companies...even worked for a small industrial services company down in Canonsburg, Pa (never go to work for a family owned business). Then it happened...first a FUSRAP (Formally Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program) for the DOE on Long Island working jointly URS/SEC (I worked then and still for URS, which now is owned by AECOM...zillions of ppl world wide...well it seems like that many) on my first Radiological cleanup. And now...now I am at Hanford (DOE Complex) out in south central Washington...working at the Tank Farms where 50MM+ gallons of liquid mixed waste remains stored going back all the way to the 1940s when the country was out to harness the atom for destructive power. The material for FATMAN and LITTLE BOY was produced here...but this is another story...so look me up! I hope you are all well, and that at least most of you are still with us. I know of at least one that is not and that aches me... never really done well with the dying thing! John Harris 01/18/2016
