John's Story
Workplace
Left Air Force in 75 to work for Lockheed Electronics at Johnson Space Center(Houston). Worked on conceptual design for a real time data processing system to handle the flight test of the space shuttle. Left Lockheed/NASA in 77 for the lure of oil field services. Worked for Welex (a Halliburton co) in nuclear tools sections. Developed the software for the 1st porosity measurment tool at Welex. Organized and headed the Digital Systems Section which produced the 1st all digital open hole logging truck for Welex.
Was hired away by AMF Tuboscope (Houston) to become the manager of Engineering software. Headed group that developed the first multi-inspection system for doing computer based pipe inspection (about 20 of these systems in pipe mills worldwide). Became the Director of Mill Engineering in Tuboscope. Got cross threaded with some one further up the food chain and was thrown off the train.
Came back as a consultant and wrote the software for the first full-body ultrasonic pipe inspection system (about 15 of these world wide). Worked for Tanknology developing a high precisio...Expand for more
n tank gauging system(as in how do we know how much gasoline is in that tank? No, not the one under the 7-11, the one on the ship channel). Worked on a robotic drilling rig for Dreco Inc in Utah. Came back to Tuboscope as a software supervisor. Developed 3 new inspection system for them. Got a better offer from RD Tech (Canadian non destructive testing equipment manufacturer). Too cold. Came back to Tuboscope as a software supervisor (again). Currently developing the next generation ultrasonic inspection machine using embedded microprocessor in a Field Programmable Gate Array.
Military
Left graduate school at Tech for Air Force Flight Test Center. Worked on Runway Meterological System (measures wind speed direction with precision on main runway at Edwards AFB). Most of time was spent as laison officer to Grumman Data Systems developing the real time flight test system used to develop the B1 bomber. Long TDY's in San Francisco and Calveton, NY. While at Edwards, got MSEE from University of Southern California. Left Air Force to work on space shuttle at Johnson Space Center, Houston.
