John's Story

Well just after getting out of KHS in 86 I landed my first job in the jewelry business. I worked for Holly and Christy Scott's parents who at the time owned a wholesale, manufacturing and importing company dealing primarily in 14 karat gold items. Back in those days we were a major supplier to mostly independant jewelers in Missouri and the surrounding seven states. We produced literally tons of gold chains, bangle bracelets, heavy link bracelets, omega chains and supplied just about everyone in the Midwest with their add-a-bead necklaces. The Scotts sold the company in 1997 and I stayed with the new owners for two years before deciding it was time to move on and try something else. Landed a job with a wedding band manufacturer and spent the next year running around MO and IL working to expand their business. In 2000 I moved out to Las Vegas with a diamond company and covered Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Oregon. Lots and lots of miles on the road that year but what an education on the Wild West! I headed back to St. Louis in 2001 and went to work for Duff Hufford over at Huffords Jewelry in Ladue. Being one of our best customers at Scott Company Duff always offered me an open door policy for a job and I'm eternally grateful for that! I worked the sales floor at Huffords from 2001 until November 2006 with the exception of working for Curt Parker Jewelers for one Christmas. This leads us up to current times. On February 1, 2008 I opened up...Expand for more
Hartman Jewelers! Located at 9959 Manchester Road in the Warson Woods Dierbergs shopping center. It's a wonderful location and has been up and running for 32 years under the previous ownership. Al and Sandy Noack served the community well and built a strong following. I can only hope to have the same longevity that they did! We specialize in Bridal rings, pearls, diamond and gold jewelry, sterling silver gifts, expert jewelry and watch repair, restringing services as well as appraisals. We also have baby gifts and bridal party gifts. My sister Julie also works in the shop with me in the mornings before heading home in the afternoons to take care of her two little ones Gus and Lucy. Throughout my 20s and 30s I had a ton of vacation time which allowed me to do a lot of travelling. I used to spend several weeks a year following The Grateful Dead around in the Spring and Summer months, learned how to scuba dive and went to some really cool locations, even ran into a shark the first time I dove in salt water! Around 1997 I went through the cooking portion of the culinary program at Forest Park just for fun. I still love to cook and entertain when I get the chance. In recent years I still manage to hit a music festival or two every summer. Like to go hiking on Sunday mornings when I can get other folks up to go that is. Sometimes I need a little motivation too. Haven't been on a float trip in two years and I think that's a shame! That's about it for now!
