John's Story
Life
Hello classmates.
Sorry I could not make it to the reunion.
A quick synopsis of event since Cox: Graduated from the Naval Academy, went into the nuclear submarine program, and spent three years aboard a submarine (in Norfolk). While there, I married a Bayside grad, Diane. Then, still in the Navy to Orlando where I was an instructor in the nuclear program. While there, went to grad. school in finance and econometrics, and had first son, Eric in 1986. Left active duty, became a brocker with a small private firm in Winter Park, Fl., where our second son, Alek was born in 1988. After a couple of years, I was recruited by my Naval Reserve unit CO (another Naval Academy grad), and moved to Palm Beach Gardens working for Florida Power & Light (FPL). I have been with FPL since: As an engineer in Palm beach 1988-1990, a supervisor in human resources at T...Expand for more
urkey Point Nuclear Plant (south of Miami) 1990-1991, and as a financial and contracts manager at Turkey Point (1991-1998). While at Turkey Point, initially we lived in souther Dade County, where our daughter, Anna was born in 1991. In August of 1992, hurricane Andrew helped us relocate (our house was flooded by storm surge, and we sold it as is instead of fixing it), and we moved to Key Largo, which was a wonderful place to live. In 1995, I got tired of commuting from Key Largo to West Palm Beach for my monthly naval reserve weekend, so I took an early retirement from the navy as a Commander. In 1998, I was again relocated to FPL's corporate headquaters in Juno Beach, Fl. where I report to the president of FPL's nuclear business unit. We live near Jupiter, Fl. with our Yellow lab, "Jake", and enjoy scuba diving, fishing, boatong in general, the beach, and cooking.
