John's Story

Life I joined the Army directly after High School as a German translator. Naturally I spent most of my military career in Germany. My first post was Berlin. It was a great place to be during that time. Also I met my future bride, Sue, there. I managed to stay in the military until I hit retirement. During my time in the Army Sue and I had two wonderful daughters. The oldest graduated from college this year and started graduate studies. My youngest is a Senior at the same college. Before retiring in 1999, I enjoyed tours in Berlin, Augsburg, Bonn, Warsaw, Poland, Monterey, CA, New York and Texas. ow Gemany seem like a second home. After four years at the consulate in Frankfurt, I was sent to a more exotic locale, Bangkok, Thailand. We are enjoying the culture, sights and tastes of Thailand. My job is regional and I travel all over Asia, Australia and the Pacific Isles. Maybe one day, during my travels, I will run into a fellow classmate from Zweibruecken. Military I actually had very nice career in the military. Assigned to FS Berlin, FS Augsburg, Ft Drum, NY, Bonn, Germany and Warsaw, Poland. Warsaw had to be my favorite assignment - met a lot of great people and ate a lot of great food. I retired in 1999 and joined the State Department. Currently in Frankfurt (can't seem to get out of Germany for very long) with Sue, my lovely wife of 22 years. We are supposed to moving to Bangkok this fall - can't wait.
