John's Story

Life After graduating from UVA, I went to Minneapolis to seek fame and fortune as a bus driver. I did that for 3 years, and also got somewhat involved in local politics. In 1980, I moved to Denver, where I drove a Ski bus and worked as a community housing activist. Later, I switched to Denver Public School and developed a comprehensive school bus training program. I also worked in television production on a freelance basis. I returned to NOVA in 1989 and have been teaching science and social studies since 1994, most recently at JEB Stuart. Last May, I graduated with my third degree from UVA, a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.)....Expand for more
College I ended up at UVA by mistake because I wanted to drive the buses and swore that I would never return after graduation in 1977. Swore when I graduated from college that I was done with college and the University of Virginia forever. Earned 92 additional college credits at 6 different schools before returning to UVA for a Master's adn doctorate. So much for never. Workplace Worked at Shakey's Pizza. Drove buses for 10 different bus companies around the US. Worked in TV production for 8 years. Was an office temp for a couple of years. Now I teach high school and have worked as a summer school assistant principal.
