John's Story
Wow, 1968 is getting to be a long time ago! I managed to survive until 1969 and ended up on the Berkeley campus. Difficult years then that I am glad that we made it through. Various post-grad jobs after UCB. My travels outside CA began when went to South America, Paraguay, with the Peace Corps from 74 to 76. Interesting time: learned how hard the world can be and grew up. Left Paraguay with the image of a neighbor, plowing his field with a ox, knowing that I was bless with an opportunity in the U.S. to contribute something more than muscle to the world. I returned to grad school and work toward a PhD. in economics--involved in university research and teaching ever since.
I now live in Michigan with my wife, Carol Sue where we've raised two wonderful children, now young adults. Living...Expand for more
in the midwest has been quite wonderful. There's a different history here and more connected with the east coast in many ways. I've delved into family history a bit and found family roots dating back to 1635 in Virginia and later in Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, and soCal.
I do get out to the Bay Area now and then. Most of my extended family live around the bay, so it's fun to visit them. I went by Woodside High a few years ago and was struck by how familiar it was--the parking lot looks much the same, though there is a nice new auditorium. Also, I do love Peet's coffee, especially Major Dickenson's, whenever I get a chance to savor it. Enjoy a cup if you are nearby.
Hope all you Woodside grads are prosperous and well. Let's look forward to another 60 or so years on the calendar!
