John's Story
I attended Salisbury State from Sept 78 to Jul 79. Enlisted in the USAF in Dec 79. After basic and technical training school I was stationed at Pope AFB, NC. Here is an interesting fact for the class, while at technical school in Biloxi, MS I ran into Vaughn Thompson, he was in school for ground radio and I was there for aircraft radio and navigation systems. We also ended up at Pope at the same time. I was stationed at Pope from Aug 1980 until Mar 1982. I received orders for a one year assignment at Osan AB, Korea, with the option for a follow on assignment to a base of my choice. I extended my enlistment and choose Clark AB, Philippines. While in the Philippines I have been told that I was the first and only single male to be allowed to adopt a child in the history of the Philippines. If that is true then I count myself very blessed. At the ripe age of 24 I adopted Donald, who was only three weeks old when he came into my life. From the Philippines I got orders for Hurlburt Field, FL home to the Air Force Special Operations Command. I got to Hurlburt in June 1987, in June 1989 my father became very ill passing away in August 1989. reville at Tidewater Publishing until the estate was settled. Then Donald and I moved to Monroe, NC for about a year the job market dried up and so we came back to Cambridge. In January 1992 I joined the USAF Reserves out of Dover AFB. I got married to my second wife in May 1992 (now divorced) and we had my daughter Katie. January 1995 I took a job in Delray Beach, FL working with Office Depot doing a pilot program that ended early so I headed back to Dover, DE in Sept. 1995 and worked full time with the Reserves LAN Admin until Sept 1996. I moved to a job in Wilmington, DE running the service department for a computer/ network shop. In Sept 1998 I took a job with the City of Wilmington, DE. In Feb 2003 I took a contracting job that landed me in DC at General Services Administration. Also in Feb. 2003 I was called to active duty, I reported to Dover on Feb 27, 2003 for the activation briefing. My whole unit all twenty two of us. Our specialty is to run the operations for an air field. As the communications chief my job was to establish and maintain communications with headquarters and other units as designated. Once released from active duty I returned to GSA. In January 2008 I left GSA and went to work for L-3 Communications which has an IT contract with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
