John's Story

Life After graduation in 1985, I went to Finland as a Men's Rotary Exchange Student for one year. I lived near the Arctic Circle and experienced -60 degree weather. I joined the U.S. Army in June 1986 as a finance specialist and was later trained to be a computer programmer. I was stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA from Nov. 1986 until June 1990. I was sent to the Sinai Desert of Egypt for 6 months in 1988 for temporary duty where I experienced 135 degree weather. I started school at Northern Illinois University in June 1990. I spent the summer of 1994 traveling Europe enjoying the sights and researching my ancestry in Germany. I found some cousins that are still farming the land in Bega, Germany that my great-grandfather lived on. There is...Expand for more
even a Jurgensmeier Street that runs in front of the farm house through the town. I graduated in May 1996 with a B.S. degree in Computer Science. I met my wife (Carrie Gridley) in 1994 at school and we later married in Las Vegas, NV in Nov. 1996. Carrie and I were each hired by Texas Instruments(TI) in Dallas, TX as software engineers in June 1996. TI later sold the defense segment of their company to Raytheon Missile Systems in Oct. 1997. Raytheon closed the plant we were working at in Lewisville, TX and moved us to our current location in Tucson, AZ in Oct. 1999. I am currently working as a Unix (Sun/HP/Linux) and MS Windows (NT/2000/XP/2003) System Administrator. We bought our first house in March 2000 and currently have no kids.
