I had already joined the Air Force before I graduated but, I didn't leave for Basisc training until the next fall. The delay was due having to wait for an opening in the Air Inteligence Technical school, Denver Co. After that I was off to Mountain Home AFB Idaho, Home of the F-111. While there we were deployed to the middle east in support of the Iranian hostage rescue. While airborne we found out about the fate of the rescue mission. We were over the mediterranean with no place to land since no country would allow us in for fear of retaliation from Iran. Turkey allowed us to land at Incirlik AB and remain grounded until a NATO exercise started. We returned home during the Mt. St. Hellens eruption, which took the paint off of a few jets that flew thru the ash clouds. From there I went to Lakenheath AB England, Ramstein AB (Sembach) Germany, Mytle Beach AFB (RDF), North Carolina, Nellis AFB Nevada (several times), Mc Dill AFB Florida (the start of spec ops southern command, Nordholtz Naval base Germany, Anderson AFB Guam [some of the best dive sites in the world],(where we watched Philippine President Marcos's fall from power) then to Sac HQ, Offutt AFB Nebraska for several years.
