John's Story

Well folks, it seems kind of silly to package almost 35 years in a story, but here it goes. I knew I was going to design and build in some capacity while attending Woodbridge High School. Classes with Russ Mattoon for Architectural Drafting and acceptance to the new Architecture program at NJIT launched me on my way. My entepreurnurial spirit, however, thrust me into business, short circuiting my pursuit of becoming a registered architect. It didn't slow down my pursuit of design-build, however, and I did it with a twist, I got involved with a modular construction firm and spent the next 25 years pushing the envelope of what factory built structures could achieve. All my work has been in institutional or commercial projects using Concrete & Steel, not the typical image of a modular solution. This included the launch of the nation's cellular phone network, construction of parts of three Disney Parks, and more schools and prisons then I can recall. Perhaps one of the most interesting approaches began in the late 80's after reading that the Russians had bugged the new US Embassy in Moscow. Why not build them in the US where the process can be controlled and erect them overseas? Meetings at the State Department and Pentagon were met with unusual optimism. The fall of communism and pending conflict in the Middle East demanded creative approaches. For over the next 15 years I was involved in building all types of overseas government facilities including US Embassies in most of the old Soviet Republics. Projects ranged from Bangkok to Bagdad to Bissau in West Africa. I developed unique constructions solutions to resist almost every physical and technical threat from blast, ballistics, RF, and EMP. By the mid 90's the then Secretary of State, Madeline Albrecht, presented me with an award for outstanding contributions to help "Reinv...Expand for more
enting and Reengineering" the US Government. 9-11 only increased my work abroad futher developing force protection and secure construction techniques. I've done projects in just about any location with a conflict including Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq. By 2005 the company I was with and economics began to change. About that time, I was introduced to technology that was capable of stopping high energy radiation, used predominantly in Cancer Radiotherapy treatment. Just over a year later I had acquired the technology with some of the original founders and became President and Principal of my own company. For the last three years I have been building Cancer Centers around the world using the patented technology including the UK, Canada and the US. My clients have included some of the most renowned Cancer Facilities including Mayo, Presbyterian, Christie Clinic, UCSD and projects pending with the likes of Johns Hopkins and MD Anderson. I figure at this point I have worked on or developed over 5000 projects in 20 countries and 32 States. Got my first patent issued in 2015 and have three more on the way. Thru it all I have remained a Jersey Guy and currently live in Annandale in beautiful Hunterdon County. I married Debbie Patrick, WHS class of 76 and we have three children, John, Justin and Kristen. John also attended WHS and is a Rutgers' grad married with two little girls. Justin just graduated Syracuse University as a mechanical engineer Cum Laude and got his MS there in Engineering Management Still in Syracuse and married. Kristen just graduated FDU with two degrees Magna Cum Laude I stay in touch with a handful of classmates and believe we had a talented group in the class of 75. Too many nights in hotels and on the road allow me to check in on the Classmates site to pass some time in between answering emails and reading.
