John's Story
Life
After AHS I went to Western Illinois and proved my H.S. teachers wrong. I wasn't an underachiever, I was just stupid. I worked in a factory for 9 mos. while going to data processing school then worked in D.P. for Baxter Labs for 2 1/2 yrs. I joined the Navy and was stationed on a ship that home-ported in Naples, Italy. After discharge, I was hired by the A.C. Nielsen Co. and worked there as Office Services Supervisor, then Mgr. for 25 years. During that time I met the love of my life, married, and we have been together ever since. were casualties of the down-sizing on the same day. Going from 2 mgmt. salaries to no salaries at all is loads of fun, try it sometime. Following 14 mos. of unemployment, I managed a warehouse for a few mos. then sold cars for 2 yrs. Well, at least it wasn't used cars. I now work for a good company as their office services coordinator. I have been here for about 6 yrs. and am very happy. I have lived in Round Lake, IL for 27 yrs. and unless I hit the Lotto, this is probably where they will plant me. For those of you who knew my brother, Jerry, I'm sorry to say that he died of cancer in 1988 leaving 3 children.
