John's Story
Life
I just turned 51 this past Sunday, July 10th '05. Life has been good to me so far. My HS education at Bloom in the advanced science/math program got me on track for a good college education(BS Biology)and later my doctorate in Optometry. I am married(27+yrs)with 2 children: Caroline(23)who lives in Denver and is getting married on New year's Eve, and Michael who is a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill. I have lived in NC since moving here in '71(except for 4 yrs in Memphis, TN)and now live in High Point, NC where I have a private eyecare practice since 1981. I have two cats and a dog who get a lot of attention since both kids are now out of the house. My wife and I like to travel when possible and have been out to Denver more than a few times since our daughter has moved out there. We are going again in a few months and again for the wedding! We do visit Chicago quite often staying downtown, going to Cubs and Sox games, eating the great food that I grew up with and miss so much that we don't have down here(like italian beef sandwiches!) I have visited Chgo. Hts. a few times and my old neighborhood to check things out...Bloom still looks the same....I miss the people I grew up with for so many years and wish I could connect with them again and find out how life has gone for them. I love my work, where I live, the state I live in, and my family and friends. I stay very busy with work and hope to one day retire to the coast of NC to enjoy life after a life of work. I donate time in volunteer eyecare trips to Central America now and hope to do that til I die. I like to snow ski (in NC, WV, and now CO)and salt water fish. I like good coffee(Costa Rican preferably), good beer, a good real life adventure trip, laying on a great beach or swimming, and holidays with family. I had lasik nearsighted surgery at age 44 and am enjoying it thoroughly. At age 51, I realize the at this age health can change and life is not as endless as it once seemed as a kid. I look forward to enjoying the time I have left in taking care of my patients, family, and friends and trying to enjoy my good health and live life with the idea of making the world a better place through my interactions with others in whatever way I can. I look forward to hard work, the rewards of my labors later in life, and hopefully a lot of laughs all along the way! Maybe another trip to Ireland after my son graduates in a year....I have relatives there, the beer is great, the people are fun, and the scenery is breathtaking....sounds like a plan....but I have work, a wedding, and another year to go before he graduates before that can happen. I will get there though so enough.
