John's Story

After graduation, went into the Air Force four years. Spent 2 1/2 years in Japan & Pacific Islands. Took me 7 years to get out of college with BSEE in power systems. Worked for USBR Dept od Interior until retirement in 1990. Took breaks in employment ( 1 year) to travel around the world. Also spent some time in Western Caroline Islands. Worked at Shasta Dam and power plant and finished career at Willows, CA working on the Tehama Colusa Canal project and pumping plants. Got married in Willows in 1972 and have been here ever since. Got into agriculture and grew rice for 15 years. Not bad for a city boy. In 1986 planted 90 acres of pistachio trees which are keeping me busy and out of trouble. we are completely vertically integrated. Everything done here on ranch. We grow, harvest, process, roast, box, package, and market from here. Busy busy busy. In 2009 planted 22 more acres and this past october planted another 102 acres. My facility can handle that volume when it comes into baring. Takes 6 to 7 years before trees bare. Took a trip to Alaska in 2009 and will take a trip to Ireland at the end of this month (May 2013. We are healthy as can be expected for our stage of life. Still active. My wife and I also have 2 daughters, 35 and 33. I try to attend the reunions, but it is getting harder to face the trip to So. Cal. Too many people traveling too fast. My county, Glenn, only has about 30,000 people. No crowds. 5-2-13
