Joyce remained with DAC until December of 2004, and then she retired. I take up my time with SERTOMA, an International Civic Organization. Here in McAlester, we sponsor the teams for the Girls & Boys Club Of McAlester, purchased the first dialysis machine for McAlester, we made a major contribution to the first handicapped transport for Oklahomans for Indepent Living (OIL). We build wheel chair ramps at no cost to those needing them,.etc. I also have a 900 sq/ft wood workshop in which I am great at making sawdust, I manage some small pieces of furniture, some minor cabinet work and general handyman work around McAlester. Current other passion is a '72 British Racing Green 1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle Slushbox (automatic). As happy and spoiled as a fat hog in warm mud, fed three times a day!!!!

About the 6th grade I left and lived in San Bernadino with an Aunt and Uncle while my folks got a divorce. During this period, July 5, 1956 , my father died. We returned to Reno to live with my mother shortly after that. Sometime shortly after we ended back down in San Diego area at Linda Vista. I finished Junior High in Linda Vista and started High School at Steven Watts Kearny High School. During my freshman year we moved up to Doyle, CA and I again attended Herlong High School. We moved to Reno and I did my sophomore year twice and then I only needed 3 credits to graduate, so I took 3 solids and 6 study halls. Grades were not high to get a student wor...Expand for more
k permit and work in the day time. Took a job in the kitchen at St. Mary's Hospital. Actually I had the job much earlier in my school life. Just that now I was working through the week till 1 or 1:30. Got up at 6:30 to get to a 7:30 senior English Class. Miss Bulmer, elderly, blonde single lady. One of my best friends during this period was Jerry Mason. In December 59 Dean of Boys Roache invited me to to leave or be removed from school. I was removed because it was less paperwork for me.
College
I had completed the High School GED in Sep 61 while stationed at NAS Miramir with VA-126. I completed the 1 year College Level GED on 3/63 while stationed at NAS Lemore in VA-126 Det A/VA-127. After I got out of the Navy I went to work at Kings Canyon/Sequoia Nat'l Park in the concession as a Pantryman, I worked there for most of the summer. In august I movedto Anchorage and livied ith my folks, worked 5 days aweek and attended SMU 3 nights a week. After the 1st frozen fog of the season, I summarily moved back down to Reno and worked the slots in downtown Reno for a couple of months. I finally got a real job at St. Mary's in the pharmacy delivering drugs to the nurses stations. I went from there to pouring concrete with my older brother Mickey and Bill House. On 31 Dec '63 I went to work at Sierra Army Depot. I obtained at High School Diploma from Lassen High School in June of 1965. I then went on in Fall of 71-72 to Lassen Community College. I earned an AA in General Education. I received my degree in June of 1973, all semesters except 1 were on the Dean's List. I managed to do this while working 40 hours a week on swing shift at Sierra Army Depot in the Surveillance Division as WG-9 and as a WG-5 Forklift Operator in Storage Division. I have failed to follow up on my higher education for many personal reasons. Not an excuse, I just chose not to pursue any higher education to deal with my life in general. I may yet get further degrees, who knows!!!
Military
Boot Camp in San Diego December 1959, just before christmas. First assignment was NAS Alameda Transit Barracksd, awaiting Uss Bon Home Richard CVA-31 inbound from WESTPAC. After I joined the Bonnie, I did 7 mos of "sea duty" in USNS Bremerton, WA. After the shakedown cruise we changed homeport to San Diego. Changed rate fro FA to SA. I made SN and was assigned a PNEC of PN-2600, which got me transferred to NAS Miramar, VA-126. Instrument Training Squadron. I later volunteered to replace a YN3 friend at VA-126 DET, NAS Lemoore, CA. By doing so I missed out on 30 section duty at Honolulu. I made both PN3 and PN2 at Lemoore. VA-126 Det A had been comissioned VA-127. I was tempted to ship over, but I found out that I would be assigned to a DE on Radar Picket Duty out of Frisco.....NO WAY. I got out and went to work at Kings Canyon Sequoia National Parks Co. Later that summer I moved up to Anchorage Alaska and worked at the ALCOM Exhange Warehouse and both a Receiving Clerk and a Shipping Clerk. Asked a sweet young 19 year old out on a Friday. Told me she needed more notice so that she could get a babysitter for the 3 kids.... Nuh I said.. Too young for that many kids.
