John's Story

Life Got the * out of Dodge in the summer on '88; Served in the Marine Corps on active duty until 2000. 8 years shy of retirement.. Why? Ask. Whatever the case, I took advantage of what military service had to offer (traveled around the globe twice, career choices, and most importantaly the "intangibles") But after all the fun leading I still got tired of yelling at folks. I Lived in Hawaii for a little over 9 years (folks that are simply stationed there don't pay state taxes or vote for da'kine.) Then some twist of fate brought me back to then moved back to the DC area…. Please don’t ask why! :-) Job: Just glad I got one.. No make that 2! I do IT/Telcom work for the local water utility & some security work in the metro area. I'm in the process of getting a few gigs off the ground such as fitness trainer, firearms instructor, home small office networking and tech support. **Anybody need any small office or home Telcom work done, such as custom building PC’s or setting up a home network I’m always taking side work! ** I know it sounds like I got alot on my plate, but I enjoy staying busy.. We all know what idle hands & minds are. Besides,if I don't gain from all the B.S. I had to put up with working for Uncle Sam, all of that time would have been a waste! Personal Life: Getting resettled & situated in PG county, trying to live within my means...Yeah, that's why I'm working 2 jobs! LOL But for real, we pay too much to live in this area for what little we get and for all the crap we have to put up with. I hope to return to Hawaii ...Expand for more
sometime in the future. I have noticed that folks have been stopping by to check out my bio, how about dropping me a note, and let me know u still breathing, OK? I have a featured link to a page dedicated to HDW c/o 88 so if you a member of blackplanet, stop over and leave a note. Peace! School My school daze ended over 23 plus years and has become a blurred memory! lol There were more good times than bad so I guess that's good news. As far as furthering my education, it's a pain in the okole! Still adjusting tocivillian life, most of my time is spent working to support my family and meager lifestyle. College Some, but perhaps I will return to it later. Workplace Still in transition from the military to the civilian sector... Still on a 7 day work week, and i have a few side gigs going on to keep busy. ('12 update) At least 12 yrs since i updated this and I am still transitioning! wow Military Two primary duty stations: North Carolina & Hawaii. Making a forced adjustment to the 1st Civ Div Out due to High Tenure :-( **Note** If you are a hardcore warrior, stay in until you can no longer hack it and leave with all the grace and style you can. Because once you hit the deck on this side of the fence, it'll be those good memories that will get you through the tough times. "The grass looks green over here because somebody spilt paint on it!" If You haven't had to undergo it already, Never, I mean never let the G.I. DOC's cut into you without a second or third opinion! If you happen to be a military MD or RN, stick to bangades and asprin!
