John's Story

Life Hi everyone finally got some time to post my bios. Johnny Meza here. Pacific High School Class of 1970 - aka John Meza, Rudy Xepotec and one of the BA-OOP Boys. Curently living in the Palm Springs, CA area for the past 10 years with my wife of 7 years vocalist, writer and event co-ordinator, Lola Rossi-Meza. I have 2 children from my previous marriage. My son Justin age 17, recently graduated as Valedictorian from the first graduating class of Chino Hills High School 2005 and will be attending UCLA. My daughter Arianna, attends that school and is also an Honors student. (Where did that come from? we are very proud of both of them) I own Prestige Entertainment (760) 322-8530 P.O. Box 2428 Palm Springs, CA 92263. We are entertainers and work here in the Coachella Valley and travel to CA, NV and AZ performing mainly for Corporate Events, Private Country Clubs, Weddings and Private and Charity Events. We are also Talent Brokers and book entertainment for clients and musicians here in the Coachella Valley. We both write for a weekly magazine here called The Desert Entertainer. Lola has been writing the Valley Rhythms column for the past 3 years and I've been freelance writing for the paper and became full time writer for the Musician Spotlight column since Jan 2005. We also own Palm Springs Records and have had limited releases of local artists along with a CD containing cover songs we produced in 1995 intitled "Favorites." I have a 16 track Digital recording studio in my home and we have also been composing, producing and performing T.V and Radio Jingles here in the Valley for the past 10 years. We have won 5 ADDY Awards and we recently completed our first national commercial for the Screen Mobile Company. I also had a limited release (500) of a self-produced CD of my original compositions in 2003 entitiled "Kokopelli." A contemporary, smooth Jazz sound with a mix of Funk, Brazilian, Latin and Blues Jazz which I love. I am in the process of remixing my tracks at Midraj Studios in Long Beach with Brazilian producer, drummer Rogerio Jardim. We perform these songs at the Idyllwild Jazz in the Pines Festival in Idyllwild. This year the festival is being held August 27 & 28 and features Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Brian Culbertson. There are 3 venues which feature Jazz, Blues and R&B. We will be performing at the French Quarter (R&B) on Saturday (no times yet) and at the main amphitheater on Sunday (will keep you posted) with my 7 piece group performing cuts from my CD. Ticket info (951) 235-2093 Occasionally we perform in clubs here in the Coachella Valley. Lately I've been heading up the Sunday Jam session at a club in downtown Palm Springs called the Blue Guitar 120 S. Palm Canyon Dr. Brief History (see school) School I attended Del Vallejo Jr. High school and grew up in the Del Rosa area. The little league baseball park at Del Rosa elementary was re-named Meza Park for my brother Jim Meza who played there as an all-star and was killed in action in Vietnam in 1970. While attnding Pacific High, I played in the concert and Marching Bands, played in a few groups with Gary StGermain (he recently attended my son's graduation party with his lovely and soon to ...Expand for more
be married daughter Erin. we keep in touch) Pete Kalnin he's a teacher in Riverside, Dave Medrano, I believe he works for the San Manuel Casino and Bob Espinoza, lives in Las Vegas and Michael Ponce. Some of you probably remember Chris Cupp, we 'went steady' during our Jr. and Sr. years and 3 years after that. Our relationship changed when I moved to the Bay area but we remanined friends for many years after that. We would keep in touch pretty frequently until 1987 which was the last time I saw her. I believe she's living in in L.A. I really don't know for sure. During high school we had bands that would play at the Custom Car Shows at the Swing Auditorium and the Citrus Building during the years 1966-1969. We would assemble a group a week before our performance and of course never placed (We just knew it was Fixed!) but one year they applauded us for originality when as the band 'Holenhead' or was it the 'Lead Balloon' performed James Brown's Cold Sweat with the horn parts played by Pete and Michael on Recorders! We had fun anyway! After high school I attended SBVC majoring in what else, Music. Gary and I continued with a 7 piece horn band called 'Amerika' doing covers of the band Chicago. We always had these band names that other groups became famous with. 1973- I joined the band Horns, Stings and Things playing at clubs like Duran's in San Bndo and Club 66 in Cucamonga. 1974- We changed band personel and signed with a management team located in the Bay area. We began opening shows for groups like Malo, Cold Blood in Berkley and the S.F. area. We were also the house band at The Jolly Friars on 26th and Clement in the City. I had been writing songs since I was 14 so I became the composer for the group. We started recording a demo but it was never completed due to contract disputes. 1976- Moved back to the Inland Empire working with various groups in the area. 1977- Worked at Ceasar's Palace in Las Vegas in the Lounge at Cleopatra's Barge. What a great gig, I wore a red velvet tuxedo and played piano and keyboards 5 nights a week with a 4 piece group called 'Company's Company.' We alternated sets with the Bill Costa group so our gig started at 8pm and ended at 2:45am. I met Dianah Ross, Frank Sintra, Alex Acuna and many other celebrities there, loved it. Usually I would head over to a nightclub called 'El Jardin' and watch a band I had befriended from Arizona until 7 or 8am in the morning. Ouch! I remember leaving the place many a time without my sunglasses, fortunately I lived in the studio apartments right behind it so I didn't have very far to crawl. 1979-Came back to San Bndo to work on a recording project and decided to stay playing at the Edgewood Lounge in Fontana. That's where I really got an appreciation for Funk and Dance music.Started my own group called Rendezvous playing at Harry C's 5 nites a week in Riverside. 1980- Decided to take a break from the music business and started working for the SoCal Gas company. Still continued to compose and record during that time. 1985- Retired from the gas company to persue composing full time and also started working ocasionally at country clubs in Palm Springs. 1992- started working full time in Palm Springs and moved here in 1994.
