John's Story
Served in the US Army for over 29 years. Have 24 months of combat time. Medically retired due to suicide bombing in Mosul, Iraq December 21, 2004. Suffered a traumatic brain injury and changed my life.
I was trained by the military in medicine and was a board certified ER Physician Assistant and served as a Battalion and Brigade Medical Officer and Flight Surgeon for 18 years.
I am currently divorced but have 5 children, all are grown and out on their own. Thanks to the military I have lived in Colorado Springs, North Carolina, Texas, Georgia, California, Alaska and now reside in Lincoln, Maine. Having traveled in 26 countries I have realized that there is no place like home. Back in the mountains of Southwest Virginia would be nice but we have four seasons here in Maine.
Four of my 5 children have or are serving in the military with two of them serving in combat. I am very proud of my children.
Retired as a Major, Battalion Surgeon, US Army. Earned 5 degrees, Forestry, Civil Engineering, Business Management, MBA, Med...Expand for more
ical Degree as a PA. Did alright on the last 4. Almost majored in liver failure my first 4 year college degree. In fact my GPA was so low the military kept coming to my dorm and escorting me to Roanoke for induction in the Army. I always seemed to be one thousandth of a point to keep me out. My brother was in ROTC and I was a protester against the war. Funny how I went on to make life time job out of military service. It was very rewarding and I got to save a lot of soldier's lives and protect my country and her people.
Started Evergreen Enterprises, LLC, a property management and maintenance company but I am selling it this year. I buried my mother and father in 2002 at Glencoe Cemetary and hope to come back and vist them and the town.
I have had an exciting and fulfilling life but there is still much more to do before I die and coming back home to the mountains of Virginia is on my bucket list. I hope to see as many of my graduating classmates as possible before I die so it is on my bucket list. Let me hear from you.
