John's Story
John's schools include Burleson High School, Tarleton State University, Hawaii Pacific University (Business Administration), Central Michigan University (Master Degree in Business Administration), many military schools, and the Al Pinson Grapevine Farrier School. He specialized in corrective shoeing for horses with hoof problems before returning to military service. He is an FAA certified Commercial Pilot with fixed-wing and helicopter / rotorcraft ratings.
His 28 year military service took him to many foreign countries such as, Germany, Italy, Japan, Greece, Turkey, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and over 3 different years in South Korea, He served 5 years in the US Air Force at Kelley AFB, TX and Yokota AFB, Japan during the Vietnam War Era in the late 1960s. The highlight of his career, and for his family, was a four year stint living in Hawaii. He is a retired US Army Chief Warrant Officer.
John and his wife, LaRue, were married in 1958, and have an adult son and a daughter who resided with them in Hawaii. They have three grandsons, one granddaughter, and a granddaughter by marriage to their oldest grandson who is serving in the U.S. Army.

ired and enjoys playing music on his guitar with friends and fishing with his son, son-in-law, and three grandsons.
Through music, John's life was enriched by allowing him to touch the lives of those in prison, nursing homes, churches, jam sessions, anniversary parties, and many other social events. John has met hundreds of people through country, gospel, and bluegrass music. They range from the very young to over 100 years of age.
John is a member of "The Country Sounds Band", the house band for the Gatesville Country Music Hall of Fame in Gatesville, Texas. He was inducted into the Gatesville Country Music Hall of Fame in April 2012. He is, also, the Public Information Officer and Administrator for the Hall of Fame website and Facebook Group Page. After the passing of the show's photographer, a replacement wasn't found so John gained another job with the show. John humbly accepted a "Lifetime Achievement Award" and many other awards from the Gatesville Country Music Hall of Fame.
John and LaRue are long time active members in the Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Killeen, Texas. Both of them have served as church Deacons, and Elders. Without a permanent pastor in 2019, John served his church as the General Board Chairman with employee supervision and administrative responsibilities.
