John's Story
I was lucky enough to be accepted and graduated from Clarkson College with an Engineering degree. In 1967, GE and Westinghouse were hiring anyone with a pulse, and since my Dad was with GE and lots of friends, somehow they let me on the GE Manufacturing Management Program....a 3 year rotational program where I got to defer what I would be doing for the rest of my life for 3 more years. Ended up in Louisville, Ky, in the Appliance Business where I was God's Gift. Wasnt smart enough to stay there where they loved me, but moved on to new/bigger challenges in Virginia and Albany, NY where I was just average. But, i...Expand for more
n spite of Jack Welsh, I was "teflon man", put in my 35 years, and got an early pension from GE.
Then the fun began. Barbara and I have two wonderful kids who got their masters in Ann Arbor and Palo Alto, stayed there, married there, and now we get to visit them and spoil the Grandkids (4). Also, instead of skiing 2 or 3 times per year when I was working, now I have the season pass at Gore Mountain and head west each February for Salt Lake and Tahoe. Going thru the retirement savings, but really enjoying ourselves. Doing some cruises as well...Panama, Mediterranean, Alaska, Caribbean, etc. Retirement is great.
