John's Story
After leaving CVHS, I attended Southwester College studying Pre-Med. I was drafted in 1970, but was released due to a minor medical condition. I pursued my career with The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and stayed with them for over 45 years, retiring in October 2012. During my career with Goodyear, I managed a District and then a Region, and then managed the Discount Tire Company account for 3..5 years, then I had global responsibility for the Walmart and Sam's Club accounts for 13 years. Walmart became the largest customer of Goodyear products during my time with them. I finished my career by managing a team of 7 Region Managers and 12 MBA’s (called Retail Development ...Expand for more
Specialists) in the 19 western states. This team called on key independent Goodyear dealers, mass merchandisers (Sears, Walmart and Sam's Clubs), car dealers and Company Owned Stores. We coached these locations on sales techniques, product knowledge, consumer insights, merchandising, advertising and how to exceed consumer expectations.
I met my wife at Southwestern College. Julia Cox and I married in June 1970, and 3 years later we had a daughter named Kimberlee, who now lives in Phoenix.
My hobbies are fine woodworking, wine collecting, upland bird hunting and some golf.
Julia and I attend most class reunions, and I enjoy keeping in touch with old friends and classmates.
