John's Story

John is from Lakeland, Florida. His schools include Lakeland High School. He later attended Lakeland Business Institute studying accounting. He is Retired. He worked in various accounting positions for 44 years. His last position was Assistant Controller at a law firm for thirteen and one half years. One of John's favorite quotes is:"By Rose Kennedy (mother of JFK & RFK) "It has been said, 'time heals all wounds'. I do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind (protecting its sanity), covers them with scar tissue, and the pain lessens, but it is never gone."". On January 7, 2015, I got married to my long-time companion (Jerome Fredrick Beeman from Bath, New York). The "engagement" was NOT short. We met Feb. 26, 1972, and we visited between Tampa and Lakeland, FL until...Expand for more
February, 1973, when I moved to Tampa and we moved in together. We've been together ever since then. YES, this is a same-sex relationship, and marriage became legal in Florida on January 6, 2015; however, we waited one more day to avoid the circus atmosphere surrounding the same-sex aspect of the unions. I realize some people will be upset about these same-sex unions; however, people love whoever they love, and they should be able to make their relationship legal in every state of the union and worldwide for that matter. I have been gay ever since I was 11 years old, but could not admit it to myself until after I graduated high school and turned 19 years old. I mention the foregoing in order to alleviate any "guilt by association" for anyone who befriended me in high school.

Jerry Beeman made a lemon meringue pie on Graham Cracker crust for July 4th. He said he made it because it's my favorite. Let's see who eats more of it. Apparently, we're going to have baby back ribs (some with BBQ sauce
I found my ninth grade report card, and it was straight As, except for the final exam grades. I remember asking my teacher, Miss Betty Stewart, how much time I should spend studying for the finals, and she told me I could
Okay, here's the correct picture to my previous post. What can I say? After all, I'm 170 years old.

I assume mustaches were popular in the 1970s. This is me in 1979. My mom died in June, 1979, at age 67, and whenever my sister, Esther, came to Lakeland for the funeral, she mentioned not having a recent picture of me, so
For dessert at lunch today, Jerry Beeman made us frozen strawberry lemonade. It's probably a good thing that we didn't have any Southern Comfort in the house. Jerry Beeman had already taken his dish to his TV table, so I
Jerry Beeman sitting on one of the metal swings just south of Waterworks Park on the Tampa River Walk. I had planned to take a lot of pictures, but I decided to just enjoy the day. Okay.....okay....The truth is that it was

This photo is from July, 1961, when I turned 14. I'm holding my dog, Toy. I got him for Christmas, 1959, (when he was about 3 months old), so he was approaching 2 years old in this picture. My dad got him from the Polk C
Just wanted to remind everyone how much can happen to your looks between the age of 11 (my profile picture) and the age of 69 (my picture attached to this post). I earned every one of those wrinkles (crevices). Even so, i
