John's Story
Life
I went into the Air Force when I got out of high school for 4 years as an air traffic controller. I was out of the air force for 8 days when the controllers went on strike and my paper work was already in the pipeline. So I was very fortunate to be in the right place at the right time and was hired right away. I have been working at the New York Center ever since. I still actively control aircraft and work in the procedures office. I got married in 1983 and was blessed with my son John in 1985. I was divorced in 1987. I had my ups and downs for awhile, then I met my present wife Toni in 1990. We got married in 1992 and had our daughter Mackenzie in 1995. We live on the east end of Long Island. We have cats dogs and a horse. My son has graduated from the University of North Dakota for aviation and is presently attending the FAA Academy in O...Expand for more
klahoma city for Air Traffic Control. My daughter is the barn-rat and is preparing for an equestrian college and career(for now). My wife is a child and wedding photographer (smallfryphoto.com). I don't Know why but recently I have had an overwhelming curiosity about all of my former classmates.

1. 1977 Graduated MHS in
2. 1977 Went into the Air Force.
3. 1978 Stationed at Loring Air Force Base in Northern Maine as an Air Traffic controller. (Tower)
4. 1979 Certified in the Approach Control.(RADAR)
5. 1981 Hired By the FAA as an Air Traffic controller at the New York Center. (Oceanic)
6. 1986 Fully Certified as an Oceanic Controller.
7. 2006 After 25 years it was time for a change. Support Specialist In Airspace and Procedures.
8. 2007 Supervisor Air Traffic Control.
