John's Story

After graduating from Estancia, I went to Orange Coast College and followed their Commercial Pilot program. I finished my Private Pilots license and worked on my Commercial and Instrument ratings. Still worked at Edwards Theatres while I was in school. After OCC, I transfered up to San Jose State University and finished off a Bachelor's degree in Aeronautics. I got a job with Lockheed Martin flying and deploying military satellites on the Space Shuttle. Very interesting and fun until the Challenger accident. I was on console in the mission control room when the Challenger accident occurred. I had been in Houston and meet with the crew just weeks before the accident. In 1994 I moved out to Colorado to help launch and operate a new military satellite program. I was promoted a number of times and took on additional responsibilities. At the end of my career, I was a Department Manager and a Lockheed Site Manager over seeing a number of programs. I led a team of about 150 engineers who helped the Air Force launch and operate a variety of military sa...Expand for more
tellites. After a little over 35 years as an Aerospace engineer and manager, I retired in 2019. I've enjoyed traveling through the US and some international travel. I've had a chance to tour Europe, Africa, South America, Australia and look forward to more travel. My wife and I had a wonderful vacation to Tahiti and Bora Bora this year. In 2011, I married Beth Forge (Estancia class of 1976). We met again on Facebook and quickly fell for each other. While I never dated Beth at Estancia, I did have a secret crush on her. I dated Susan Kane our senior year. Susan and Beth were best friends and it was Susan who helped me reconnect with Beth. After I retired, we have really enjoyed this new chapter in our lives. Beth and I hope to do a lot more domestic and international travel, volunteer, visit family and friends and slow down a little! I have two sisters who live in Orange County so we still get back there occasionally. Beth and I are hoping to find other old friends here on Classmates. Drop us a note and let us know what you've been up to!

The Sazerac House is a local distillery that offered a tour and tastings. After the tour, I bought a couple of bottles to bring back home.
Bourbon Street last night. Everyone had jackets and coats. The temps were in the low 40’s but the wind made it seem much cooler.
Another view from our hotel room looking down on the Mississippi River.
At each street corner, they tell you the name of the cross street. Here, we are just walking onto Bourbon Street!

Tonight’s dinner was crab cakes, shrimp, rice and mustard greens(?). Desert was Kentucky bourbon pecan pie!
We got about 1-2” of fresh snow today, but it’s the low temps (and wind) that really effects us. I just shoveled the driveway.
Here's the Beech Boys on our last day in Oshkosh.
We got to meet Sean Tucker - nice guy.
This is Sean D. Tucker's aircraft. He put on an excellent show - formation acro.
