John's Story

Writing as J Jay Ross on Amazon in books, a musical playwright and screenwriter: Thirty-five years is almost here since high school. As I grow older and write new stories about fictional events and people, I find more and more that a few personalities end up in my characters and even more I grow to miss many of those I spent time with incarcerated in our education system. Not just those that made life difficult for me (yes I have a list) but those who just breezed through and I haven't seen or spoken to in more than thirty years. Fictional characters are based on traits that I gleaned from those whom I've met, had relationships with and in some cases, miss dearly. Even though youth is a difficult time of experiencing growing pains and developing minds, other paths are created. Some of us went to another state or even country, some of us just drifted off the "grid" and will never be found (mainly because they don't want to be found), I have begun to wonder about those who had an impact on my life (as well as various other body parts occasionally), where they are and what they are doing. many won't me to know, others might be looking for a reason. some might just be wandering around aimlessly hoping they are not alone feeling separated for oh so many years. A few have passed on, my hearts aches for those closest to me who died in accidents or of other causes, many of them are enshrined in brief characters (out of respect) and others are just named on the page that precedes the first chapter of my novels. Soon we are will face our own version of mortality, our marks on this world will range from great to just barely a blemish on history or even anonymously grace the lives of others enough to make a distant smile or brief appearance in a dream or thought. As we say goodbye to the first thirty and welcome the next, we should keep in mind in these tumultuous times should bring us all closer together, ...Expand for more
reach out and touch (an old seventies ad byline) one another again, or for the first time. Even if you weren't a part of Reed High 1983, maybe you were part of Sparks Middle School, or another, just a passing hello would be nice. You wouldn't want to end up a antagonist in one of my novels would you? (Legal requirements force me to say that all my characters are based on fictitious people and any resemblance to persons living or dead are purely coincidental) Happy 30th, and hello again to all of you who are not hiding from Big Brother... I relax with a good book, an iced tea, and watch my granddaughter play. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have two shots espresso, classical music, and a good attitude to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My heroes vary. Military folks are number one, those who serve are the ones who deserve all the credit, not the bosses or the guy that leads the country, just the grunts, the footsoldiers and the airmen. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Shannon from across the street, because I just would like to know.... If I could improve my home, I'd remodel nothing and add on a observatory. My dream home would be paid for.. If I won $100 million, I'd give most of it to the government in taxes, then spend the rest on printer ink, antique books and friends.. My current age is 46. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be a tragedy. I was so completely right.. My best friend would tell you I'm looney, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as an introvert.. In 10 years, I hope to be better looking. I'm going to get there by throwing out all my mirrors.. A childhood memory I'll never forget? Nah, those are mine to keep. I do regret many things, but I guess we don't get to choose our path if we don't try. Maybe mine came too late, maybe I'm just in time, maybe life is just as it seems...
