John's Story
Three boys run around my house. I've got a nine year old and twins that are almost two years old. They are going to keep me planted here in Montgomery for a while. It's a low key life compared to the world travels I ventured upon in my younger years.
I've had a steady job that I like for the past ten years. I've been working for the company that everybody loves to hate. (Well, honestly, I think we are just behind oil companies, banks, and insurance companies.) I've been saying Bellsouth for so long that it is hard for me to get used to saying AT&T. Regardless, If it has anything to do with getting a line or circuit out of the central office to the customer, I've done it. And I've enjoyed it for the most part. I'm not cooped up in an office. I see new and different people every day. I'm challenged by new opportunities to learn all day long. I get to work with my hands. I work alone, largely unsupervised, and with a professional and responsible manner. There are only two other things I'd rather do (professionally, that is). One, being a market trader, requires a massive amount of capital that I don't have yet. The other, retiring to a 50 foot Ketch, also requires a massive amount of capital that I don't have yet. But on that second.... I'm well on my way... I think I may be almost there.
I'm proud of what I've achieved and accomplished. I envisioned myself on a completely different tack when I was younger. But when things weren't working out, when I wasn't happy with my life, I put everything down, thought about what I wanted to do and started from scratch. I'm not happy about everything in my life, but I'm satisfied about where I am.
(slides out the soapbox)
Ahem... AHEM...
It appears that Hillary or Obama is going to be our next president. I'm not happy about this. I'm by no means saying that McCain is much better. He was the worst of the Republican bunch. Both him and Bush were cut from the same cloth. Both of them are what I would call "Progressives". I've no use for liberal republicans. But one thing is certain. This country is about to go straight down the toilet. The congress is spending like drunken sailors. We're borrowing from ...Expand for more
china like they are a subprime lender handing out 125% Loan to Value mortgages. We currently have a national debt that we are very close to not even being able to cover the interest payments alone. I will pay into it, yet I will not see any social security money (not that I was planning on it.) We're in the middle of a religious war, like it or not. And all the democrats can talk about is "CHANGE", but not in a good way. They want to add more burden to the national budget. , by means of a moronic universal health care plan. Just take a look at a VA hospital. Of all the people that the government should be taking care of, they get the worst treatment of all. Now multiply that by a thousand and take your butt to the hospital when your appendix ruptures. Oh yeah, I'd have to do that too, because you thought it'd be best for everybody. Thank you, you moronocrat. And while we are at it, lets bring all our boys home. It's not fair for them to be over there stirring up all that hate. Let's just talk our problems out... Israel and the PLO are giving it a shot. We should too. Matter o' fact, let's bring in the UN because I don't think we can do it ourselves. We need some good ole' third world assistance. They really know what they are talking about. Plus, they could give us some diverse opinions to increase the diversity in the solution.
I could go on and on. I won't. I can't hold back the tide. It just blows my mind how people are drinking the Kool-aid. For god's sake folks. Sit down. Read these things: Atlas Shrugged, Animal Farm, 1984, Brave New World, Anthem, and an Economics textbook. That is what we are going to fight in this country. Then look throughout history. Look at the conflicts unilaterally initiated by Islam. Study how the great empires and civilizations fell. That is what we are going to have to fight outside this country. But I guess expecting anyone to fight is a bit of a stretch if they aren't even willing to read and think. Just vote who ever is going to promise you the most from the coffers (which I helped fill), sit back and yell at mean old Simon when he berates the next crappy singer. That's all you will need to know anyways.
