John's Story
Life
I started to school in Dobbin, Texas. When the rent came due we moved to Kenan Crossing (a.k.a. Kenan Switch), about halfway between Montgomery and Conroe. My friends there were the Rabon boys, Bonner, Duncan, Lester, and Morgan. I wonder where they are now.Eventually we moved into the Montgomery city limits. I attended Montgomery School until 1963 and then we moved to Conroe. We were there only a short time (until the rent came due), then to Willis and then on to Oakwood ,Texas. We moved to Palestine , Texas in November of 1964. I graduated from school there in 1968 and went to work for the railroad (MoPac) and other odd jobs, such as ; truck driver, police officer, carpenter.I eventually went into the oilpatch in 1972 (something I said I would NEVER do)and in 1974 went to work with Getty Oil Company as a roustabout. After many, many mistakes,God showed mercy on me and sent me an angel to take care of me (by this time He and I both figured I couldn't make it on my own). I met the love of my life (Judy)on December 9th ,1989. After a great deal of begging, she finally agreed to marry me in 1991 and I continue to praise God for her and to worship the ground that she walks on.I worked with Getty/Texaco for 23 years and worked toward getting my engineering degree. In 1991 I was...Expand for more
working as a Gas Plant Manager and then went into the Regional Safety Department working out of New Orleans. We left Palestine in 1994 because Texaco moved us to the regional office in New Orleans (another one of my many mistakes). All of my family (Sisters, Brothers and my Mother) still live in the Palestine area and we go "home" when we can. I left Texaco in 1997 and recieved my engineering degree in 1998 (that's right ,48 yrs old). I went into business (consulting) for myself for a year (my bride tells folks I was unemployed for a year).I worked for a risk management consulting firm for seveal years. We traveled quiet a bit with my work, spending two and half years on St. Croix but most of the time I worked out of our home in Montgomery, Texas. I now work as a Senior HES Advisor (Consultant) in Houston for Chevron. We now spend our week days in our condo downtown Houston and go to our home on Lake Livingston on the weekend. Between Judy and I,we are blessed with six wonderful children and ten of the finest, best looking and most intelligent grandchildren in the world. We love the Lord and we serve as Church Administrators at the Church On The Rock in Livingston. We are in the process of getting certified by the Red Cross to open and operate a refuge center in disasters.
