John's Story

Life After life in Waterdown, I came to Oshawa to work for General Motors as an assembler in August '81 and that lasted 14 years. Single the whole time, I took up many different hobbies like cycling and rode many thousands of kilometres in Ontario, Maritimes and B.C. (both cycle-touring and mountain biking), golf, squash, just fitness in general, oh yes, and making great cars and trucks. As a creative outlet, photography and travel (Europe-Canada) was a real eye opener. First went to Europe in '86 for 3 months of backpacking and have been back 5 times including two weeks to Italy in Dec '01. Those experiences changed me the most, learning about foreign cultures and history and then thinking about our great country from over there. Out of travelling grew a desire to quit GM and become a journalist, but the pay and benefits just couldn't match the very monotonous line-work at Generous Motors! hot summer sun. Finally, in 1995, I took a totally different path and quit GM to become a Realtor with RE/MAX here in Oshawa/Whitby. That was 10 years ago. Nine years ago I met Mrs. Wheeler, a beautiful woman named Janice who helps me with my business when she is not working with Air Transat as a flight attendant. For many years, I considered Waterdown and Carlisle home, but I must finally admit that having lived here longer than there, Flamborough is now just fond memories of my youth! It was a fantastic place to grow up and I have since then developed a genuine appreciation for small town attitudes, wide open country roads and warm starry, beer soaked nights! I often wondered about my classmates over the years and where they ended up, what they were doing. I sincerely enjoyed the Reunion held in September 2000. It was a great night and a blast to see so many faces! I'd like to hear from anyone wishing to say hi or to chat about some long forgotten times!
