John's Story
After I graduated, I worked briefly for a paper products company. When it became clear I might be
drafted to go to Viet Nam, I decided I didn't like foxholes, and joined the Naval Reserve. Then the
Cuban Crisis came along, and things got complicated - the ship I was on was right in the middle of it. Then when I got out, it was made clear to me that my old job was only given back to me
because the law required it, so I went back in the Nav...Expand for more
y. I served on more ships, saw many countries, and was stationed two years in the Philippines. I was an electronics instructor twice.
I retired from the Navy in 1980, and tried college - it wasn't my idea of interesting. Then I went to work in the marine electronics field, worked and travelled all over the world. Wore out two passports, seen over forty different countries. Retired in 2007, and can not say I've been bored very many times.
