John's Story
I guess the other one was too old. So here goes. I retired from the post office as city carrier Dec 31, 2009. I currently teach at Allen Co. CC in Burlingame in American history and world geography part time. I am writing a book on leadership. I had several good careers in public school teaching, college teaching and 23 years total in army reserves and on active duty with the military. I retired as Major from that in 1993. I had many good assignments in the military including serving in Audie Murphy's old outfit 1-15 Inf, 3rd ID in Harvey Barracks, Kitzingen, Germany in the early 70s as platoon leader and later legal officer at brigade there. That post is now closed.
I also served with 2/12 Cav at Ft. Hood three times and at Ranger Department for two summers helping to work on the new Ranger course program of instruction. I ran a live fire TOW missile range in 1979 at Hood. I served at 10 ROTC summer camps teaching thousands of male and female cadets on Ranger patrolling...Expand for more
. I had 6 and 1/2 years in ROTC at East Central, Ada, Ok and later at University of Kansas and Washburn Universities in Kansas. It was a privilege to have worked with so many fine young people who became officers in our military.
I really enjoyed my public teaching career in Floresville and Bryan working with young people teaching. And I also enjoyed all of my teaching in the college. It was an honor to have been able to have worked with so many good young people.
Marietta and I just celebrated our 42d anniversairy and on our 40th the kids gave us a big party and lots of friends were there. We have five kids and seven grandkids. My children include a fireman, a soil conservation agent and a restaurant manager. I am proud of them all. We have been in Lawrence, Ks for 24 years now since moving here from St.Louis. I had a great job there in the army counseling hundreds of officers in their careers.
I am still a Texan at heart and still love Texas and TExas A&M. Best, J.
