John's Story
After Peabody I spent the next year at West End High and then graduated from Hickman High in Columbia, Mo. The next stop was to attend the University of Missouri and flunk out with a D average, to many card games and not enough study. I then joined the US Air Force (1967)and spent a year at Lowry AFB in Denver attending Weapons Control Systems (Radar) school where I was a tutor and graduated with honors. The next three years were spent at various bases repairing the radar systems on fighter aircraft (F101 and F102). In 1971 I returned to the University and switched from chemistry to Electrical Engineering where I graduated in 1974 as an Honors Scholar with a BSEE. After graduation I went to work for Chevron Oil Co. in SanFrancisco and then joined Tektronix in Beaverton Oregon in 1977. While at Tektronix I designed things like tape drives, multiplexers for color...Expand for more
printers, hard disk drives, oscilloscopes, terminals, etc. In 1990 I left Tek to start my own business and then spent a year in Ireland. Upon returning I changed careers slightly and became a controls engineer at Blount for 8 years before joining Nautilus Inc. to design fitness equipment such as the Mobia Treadclimber which we just released. I plan on retiring in a couple more years and plan on just enjoying life. I currently commute to work on a BMW motorcycle which I've been doing on a daily basis since 1977. For those of you that remember me I still have two Vespa motorscooters that I ride occasionally and I've gotten back into photography (mostly landscapes and flowers). I hope any of you reading this are all doing well, this life has been a real joyride so far, and to top it all off I have 4 sons (Arthur, Anthony, Kenneth, and Daniel) and 7 grandchildren.
