John's Story
Life
Let's see here - got married in 1982, divorced in 1987. Abandoned the textile industry in 1991. Went to graduate school at UT-Knoxville (PhD, Clinical Psychology).
I always said that hell would freeze over before I moved to the deep south; instead, I tried to make it at least as far west as Albuquerque, but I ran out of luck before I crossed the Mississippi River and settled in Jackson, MS. Jackson is a provincial town with an inflated opinion of itself - sort of like Greensboro, NC, only without the good restaurants and nicely paved roads. Praise the Lord that the food, music, trash and sin of New Orleans is only three hours and a pint of bourbon from here (only not so much after Katrina - your tax dollars can continue to be poured into Louisiana for the next 100 years, and nothing will impr...Expand for more
ove except the incomes of the state's fabulously corrupt politicians - especially Mary Landrieu).
My wife Patra and I were married in New Orleans on July 17, 2004. We went to honeymoon in Mexico, where I discovered that the amount of high school Spanish that could be pulled from memory was positively correlated with the amount of bourbon and rum consumed. Four years of Don Jarrett's classes turned out not to be a waste of time after all.
I now have four step-children - 31,28,24,19 - and six step-grandchildren - 15, 13, 11, 10, 8, 2, and 6 months.
One last thing - throughout high school I hated the music and person of John Denver. I still do, and I would dance on his grave if I could (wasn't he cremated?). I have, however, finally developed an appreciation for country music and Led Zeppelin.
