John's Story

I joined the Marines in August 1963 and endured boot-camp at MCRD San Diego, Ca. After ITR and leave I trained at the Communications Battalion MCRD San Diego as a Teletype Operator 2541. After school I was assigned to H&S Company, Communications Platoon, 3/7 at Pendleton. I deployed to 1/3 in Okinawa in Sept '64. I thought life was good on the rock but 1/3 was put on C130's on March 8, 1965 and we landed at the Da Nang airstrip a few hours later. new this was more serious duty than what we had just left. The rest is history. I know one thing for sure, I would not want to be with any others than the United Sates Marine Corp in a combat situation. Life after the Marines I went back to school on the GI Bill. Pick up an AS and most of my BS. I have been working as a Design Engineer in aerospace and aircraft for past 25 years. I moved to San Diego in '71 after three years ('63 to '66) in the Marines. I have one son and a grandson. Mom passed in Missouri in 2001 after turning 90.
