John's Story
After graduating high school, I attended Nassau Community College and subsequently obtained a four-year degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Within a year of graduation, I obtained employment with the Federal Government. I was initially assigned at John F Kennedy International Airport before transferring to the district office in Manhattan.
In 1977, I married my wife. We have two sons and celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary last May.

I retired from the Department of Homeland Security after nearly 33 nears of federal service. Since then, I have worked for several government contractors as well as a local golf course. I am presently employed, on a part-time basis at a nearby university.
Being a product of abject poverty as well as a single-parent household, life in Hempstead was never easy and, at times, extremely difficult. However, I have many fond memories of those days and believe these experiences provided more-than adequate preparation for later life, especially from an interpersonal relationship standpoint. I consider myself to be extremely fortunate.
