John's Story

After high school I served a two year enlistment in the navy. I bought into the whole "see the world" pitch but mostly all I saw was endless ocean. There were a few stops along the way like several ports in Italy. After that, I did come back to the UP of Michigan for six months but struggled to find a job so I went back to where I originally came from Burlington, Wisconsin. For a couple years I worked factory jobs but knew this would not work out for me long term. A friend and I decided to go into business together and opened a coffeehouse style restaurant in Baraboo, Wi. The only connection to that town was that my family had taken a vacation there when I was growing up and I really liked it. Well the business did great, it was a big hit, but our friendship failed. Let's just say he had a "Fatal Attraction" thing towards me and I had to get away. But I did meet Courtney my wife at that time. We were married in 1996. For the next couple years I held jobs but never something worth perusing. Then I worked for four years at The International Crane Foundation, a world renown group that exhibits all fifteen species of the world's cranes but also breeds endangered whooping cranes and has projects across the world to save crane habitat. There was a sense of purpose but I wasn't making enough money to raise a family. I worked for Reinhart Foodservice as a Beverage & Chemical Specialist in the Madison WI area for almost seven years and was pretty content. This job gave us enough income to feel comfortable starting a family. I decided to search for my "dream job" in the beginning of 2009. My idea was t...Expand for more
o combine my abilities of equipment service with my passion for espresso and great coffee. I was amazed to find just that job with Espresso Partners located in Minneapolis and I work out of home as a remote technician. I like my work and feel like this is what I was made to do. How many people can say that? I now have three children. My daughter Brooke was born in 2003, daughter Bethany was born in 2006, and son Silas was born in 2008. We are truly blessed to have three beautiful healthy children. My wife works every other weekend third shift as a registered nurse at the local Hospital. She is homeschooling our children along with managing the household the rest of the time. My daughter Brooke was born premature by six weeks. Although she was healthy it was kind of a wake up call that I was not really in control of the events of my life and I began to see that ultimately God had control. I began turning my life over to Jesus Christ and have not looked back. Through my surrender God has saved my marriage, got me free of drugs and alcohol, cleaned up my language, is helping me take my eyes off of my self, and has given my life meaning & purpose and a peace that's indescribable. I serve in my church as a worship tech (sound & lighting), am a member of the trustee board, and I serve through Prison Fellowship leading Bible study at the local maximum security prison in Portage WI. Romans 1:16 says...I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes... I have learned that the purpose of this life is to know Jesus Christ and to make him known!
