John's Story

Life After graduation from RHS, continued to work at Winn Dixie (corner of Clark Road and Swift) and ended up being full-time employee. I admit it, I was a bit lazy and actually didn't want to go to college at the time. Was moving up through Winn Dixie management ranks until Spring 1987 when I decided I'd had enough of that. Getting up at 2:45 a.m. to go to work just didn't cut it anymore. Took the SAT in May 1987 and went to college that fall. Started at Santa Fe Community College, in Gainesville. Got my AA in May 1990. Applied to and was accepted at the University of Florida in fall 1990. Was thinking of getting BS in mathematics (you were right Steve Leitgeb, trigonometry was easy!), but switched to eng...Expand for more
ineering (environmental) instead. Got BS in environmental engineering in Dec 1993. Got a job with the U.S. Air Force (Air Force Regional Environmental Office) in downtown Atlanta in June 1994. My current job description is Air Quality Program Manager. Basically, I assist Air Force installations in the eastern United States (eastern 22 states) comply with state and Federal air quality regulations. While in my current job, I began working on a masters degree in fall 2001 at Georgia State University (better late than never!). Obtained a Masters of Public Administration in May 2004. Near and long-term goals involve upper management position within the Air Force or the Department of Defense in Washington D.C.
