John's Story

I knocked around a bit after High School. Raced dirt bikes for a few years, surfed, and generally goofed off doing crummy jobs. i wound up getting an associates degree from OCC and left Southern California in 1975. I began working for the Harris Corporation in Melbourne Florida and made some major life changes. I spent two years in Nigeria operating an Intellsat system for the Nigerian government while working for Harris international satellite communications division, came home and got married, then spent a year in Saudi Arabia doing the same kind of work. Got my degree in Satellite System Engineering from Florida State through their cooperative education program while at Harris Corp. In 1984 I left Harris and went to work for the US Army at the Communications and Electronics Test Board at Ft Gordon, GA. As the satellite comms expert I did a lot of work with our sister organization, the Airborne and Special Operations Test Board at Ft Bragg, NC. In 1988 I was transfered to the Operational Test and Evaluation Agency in Washington DC under the US Army Chief of Staff and so began a very challenging but interesting career as the Airborne and Special Operations Evaluator for the US Army. I got to go places that most people never go, and see and do things that most people never get to to see or do, it was great and I loved it.I tested and evaluated eve...Expand for more
rything that the Airborne and Special Operations soldiers would ever use in combat. I insisted on personally testing most of the systems and equipment myself and reported my findings to the Chief of Staff Army, the Joint Chiefs, and Congress regarding the effectiveness of various military systems that ranged from parachutes and weapons to food and body armor, to high tech sensors and communications devices. My wife retired in 2007 and I retired in 2008 after our house was paid off so now we have time to just do the things we always wanted but were just too busy. Anyway, I divorced my first wife in 1995 and I got remarried to my present wife Daphne. I have two lovely step daughters, Lisa and Alli, and a wonderful grandson named Triston. We now live in the small town of Leesburg, VA and we enjoy spending our summers at the beach in Nags Head, NC, we also visit friends in Las Vegas several times a year and we see my parents, (yep they are still living in Southern Cal), every year. Our oldest daughter Lisa is a nurse at Scripps Hospital in San Diego so we also see her a couple of times a year. Well that's just about it. It's not easy to squeeze 44 years of life (wow has it been that long?) into a couple of paragraphs. All I can say is that life sure has a way of taking some strange twists and turns. Hi to the class of 69, hope all of you are well. John.

Here is one of New England's Playoff balls. I can see how it would be hard to tell from a normally inflated ball.
