Top News Story: The 2010 Reunion!
We had a reunion for WT Clarke classes 1959 to 1964 on September 25 at the Huntington Hilton. I have posted some details online, but the classmates people don't permit web addresses here. You can email me if the following doesn't make sense: clarke-reunion dot blogspot dot com.
After the reunion weekend on Long Island, my wife and I went to Atlantic City for a few days of fun in the sun -- Oops, wait! It rained all week! Well, there was no rain inside the Tropicana and we all had a good time. I actually made a little money.
My story:
After graduation, I worked for the US Post Office in Westbury for a few months. I joined the US Navy in January of 1962 and liked it well enough to stay for 21 years. They say, "Join the Navy and See the World." Yes ... I had 23 different addresses in 21 years.
After the Navy, I worked for several defense contractors, continuing my association with the Navy. I went to college nights and weekends in the 1980s to get my degree as an Electronics Engineer.
My work involved mostly US Navy shipboard electronic systems. It was challenging and rew...Expand for more
arding. I met hundreds of dedicated, hard-working people all over the world.
Before retiring for good in 2007, I had five years with the Federal Civil Service.
I have been married twice and have three children. I live with my wife, Judy, in a suburb of San Diego. On a clear day, I can see San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean from my back yard. Judy's with me in the photo, which is a few years old. Of course, like all of you, we still look wonderful. Yeah, right!
We are living the suburban dream, happily retired, doing a lot of traveling, including about a dozen cruises and lots of serious loafing.
In my spare time, I do some gardening and (having always been a proud nerd) I play with all kinds of electronic toys. I have several satellite dishes and nine computers, most of which aren't used these days. I'm an active ham radio operator (KD6VKW, for those who know what that means).
Yes, we have a pool. After all, it is Southern California.
I'm looking forward to the next reunion. I hope we''ll do it sometime in 2015.
Best wishes,
John Markham
