John's Story
I enlisted in the Air Force in April before graduation and left JAX for basic in San Antonio TX on July 5. I Went to Denver CO for munitions school and then spent 42 months 60 miles west of London, England at the largest US controlled ammo dump in Europe. Came home on leave in 69 and married Roberta (Bobbie - Class of 68) Evans. After the service I started working for a Fire Sprinkler Contractor on the west side, did 6 years with Offshore Power Systems designing fire protection, plumbing, and safe guard systems for their floating nuclear power plants. JAX and ATL. Bobbie and I had a daughter and a son in 1973 and 1976 respectively and moved to Atlanta in 1986. She had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 1981 (Yep 31 years old) and died in 1988 from heart damage caused by the chemo, cancer free. A year later I married another GA transplant from Indianapolis. She had a daughter from her previous marriage (he had died from leukemia). We've been married now for 28 years and have 3 grandchildren. I'm still working (hope to retire next year), assistant coach on my grandsons soccer team, enjoy Road Atlanta and the Petite Le Mans, and traveling when ever the opportunity arises.
