John Meyer, MD FASTRO
• Patient Care in Radiation Oncology
Dr. John Meyer, Medical Director of Radiation Oncology since 1989, has been instrumental in bringing advances in imaging technologies like CT and MRI to the techniques and technologies of radiotherapy planning and delivery. This has permitted safer patient care in San Francisco, and has guided the development the comprehensive cancer and advanced radiation services at. Saint Francis Memorial Hospital.
John’s undergraduate degree was from the University of California, Berkeley, and Medical Degree from the University of California, San Francisco. He completed his specialty medical work at the Stanford School of Medicine in Radiation Oncology (Residency, Fellowship, and Consulting Staff). He is now Adjunct Clinical Professor of Radiation Oncology, Stanford School of Medicine.
• Leadership and Recognition
In addition to a very active practice in Radiation Oncology Dr. Meyer has been devoted to medical education. He is active in medical resident education, and has been Program Director of the Residency in Radiation Oncology (St. Mary’s, Saint Francis, CPMC and Seton Hospitals) for nearly a decade. chief of the international book series ‘Frontiers of Radiation Oncology, and has edited and authored 14 major volumes in that series. Also, he is General Director of the San Francisco Radiation Oncology Conference, an international conference representing the Departments of Radiation Oncology at UCSF, Stanford, UC Davis and Saint Francis and one of the largest conferences in our field. He also serves on committees and educational programs of the American Society of Radiation Oncology and American Radium Society.
Among his many honors, he has been elected by his colleagues to be President of the Northern California Radiation Oncology Society, Fellow in the American College of Radiology and Fellow in the American Society of Radiation Oncology--one of only 250 individuals so selected in the United States to date.
• Personal Life
John is happily married to his husband of many years, JC, and lives in San Francisco and Napa, California. He is an active supporter of the arts and of young musicians pursuing their goals in the arts, and he himself performs on violin with his friends at his home. He actively travels, has made some 40 trips abroad, and encourages you too to explore and experience this amazing planet we live on.
