John's Story
Life
35 years is a long time so lets see: spent 22+ years working for the Government (Army & NSA) and I am now working at AT&T (working for the government, but making more money). Somewhere in there I ended up with a bit more education (BS in Computer Science from Iowa, MS in Technical Mgmt 1993 & MS in Computer Science 1999 both from Johns Hopkins), I have done a fair amount of traveling for business and pleasure, went through two marriages, and was blessed with a son (Andrew Jon) from the latter. He is without a doubt my most important accomplishment. Andrew is 23 now. What lies in my future: work, finding some place to retire - I did buy a condo on the NE side in CR in October 2006, and helping my son anyway I can even if he is 12,000 miles away. I don't plan on remarrying (famous last words). The notion of striking out three times just doesn't appeal to me. A friend and I went to Aruba to celebrate our 50th birthdays in 2004. I went with a different friend this May/June (2007) on a cruise from Rome to London with stops in Florence, Monaco, Gilbralter, and Le Verdon - France. I had never been o...Expand for more
n a cruise until 2006 when I got the chance to take a Crystal Cruise of the Greek Islands (Athens, Rhodes, Mykonos, Santorini, Kusadasi - Turkey, and disembarked in Venice). I really liked it so I booked the 2007 trip before I got off the boat. I traveled to Devil's Tower in 2004 and 2005. I've climbed the Durrance Route (Durrance Route is one of the fifty classic climbs in North America), and a couple of others. I did that and have completed the two things I wanted to do before I turn 50. The other was skydiving which I did a year earlier, doing both tandem and solo jumps in the advanced freefall program I was in. The difficult part is going out the door, but once you are out there is no feeling like it in the world - and no it is not better than ???. And, from the famous last words department - I am getting married in May 2009 to a very nice and lovely Iowa lass.
I don't know what else to add so I will quit and hopefully see a lot of old friends at the 2012 reunion. There were a lot of people I didn't get a chance to talk to and I've regretted it ever since. I hope everyone is healthy and happy.
