John's Story
After graduating from John Marshall in 77, I went to work at Crenlo(1.spot-welder, 2.grinder, 3.welder). Bought a new split-level home in NE Rochester in 79, got married, life was good but I wanted more. Sold the house, enrolled in school & moved to Burnsville. I enrolled at DCAVTI for the Electrical Lineman course(81-82). Top of my class. Did cable T.V. instillation till 1/83. It was in the midst of a severe recession(worse than 2008-2010). Applied everywhere. Got a job working for Transpower Constructors working mostly in the western part of the country. We moved with the line. Working near Ely, Nevada - I fell about 65 feet from an electrical transmission tower in the mountains. Closed Head Injury. Roughly 10-12 weeks in a Coma. 3 weeks in ...Expand for more
the ICU at the University of Utah. 3 weeks at the University of Minnesota Neurology, then 12+ weeks at the U of M R4 rehab. I was released at the age of 24 & they wanted to put me in a nursing home when I left the hospital but my parent's insisted I live w/ them in Rochester. I worked at ABC(Ability Building Center) on Valley High Dr just west of JM next to post office(ABC is a "sheltered workshop"). Very determined to recover & was back in Minneapolis going to school for Electrical Construction in the 85-87 school year....Did Electrical Construction for a couple of years but due to my HEAD INJURY I couldn't keep up as I was expected. Started driving LIMOUSINES part-time.
Now a Personal Trainer & Chauffeur. How'd that happen??? ....John
